Common Questions

Who do you design for?

Mostly people heading into or already in retirement who are ready to move out of a house that has become too big, too cold and too expensive to keep. Occasionally a family member building a smaller home on shared land. If you are building your forever home rather than your next one, you are our client.

What size home do I actually need?

Less than most people expect. A well-planned smaller home makes room for what you use and cuts the rest. You still get a spare room for the grandkids. You just stop heating four rooms nobody walks into.

Will the house be cheap to run?

Yes, and that is the whole point of building it this way. A sealed, well-insulated shell holds its temperature instead of leaking it, so you are heating and cooling far less than you are used to. What that looks like on your block, and how solar fits in, is something we work through during feasibility rather than guessing at here.

Can the home be easy to move around as I get older?

Yes, and it is built in from day one rather than retrofitted later. Step-free entry, wide doorways and hallways, and a layout that does not fight you. Single level wherever the site allows for it. Some blocks need a second storey, and where that is the case we design the ground floor to work on its own.

Is this different to a retirement village?

Completely. You own the home outright, on your own land, on your own terms. No shared ownership, no exit conditions, no rules about what you can do with it, and nothing to renegotiate later.

How is it different to a project home?

A project home is designed for a display village, not your block. It is built on site from sticks, to a rating calculated before anything exists. Ours is designed around your site and tested when it is finished.

Can I bring you a plan I already have and get you to build it?

No. The performance outcome depends on the design being built around panelised construction and orientation from the very first sketch. It cannot be applied to a plan drawn without it.

Why does the build take less time than I expected?

The shell arrives as finished panels. What would normally be weeks of framing becomes a matter of days once the panels are on site. The design and documentation stage is where the time goes, because that is where the accuracy has to be.

Can we build a standard house now and upgrade it later?

No. Airtightness and continuous insulation are in the shell. You cannot bolt them on afterwards without pulling the house apart. Solar can wait. The envelope cannot.

Do you work outside Central Victoria?

Yes. We work across Australia. Design reviews happen by video link, and we travel for the site visit and key stages.

Do you take on renovations?

We will if it is the right project, but our focus is new builds. Most people who come to us are building rather than renovating.
